Instrument Adjustment

Instrument Adjusting

Instrument adjusting uses handheld chiropractic instruments such as ArthroStim®, Activator®, and Impulse® to deliver precise, controlled impulses to specific joints of the spine or extremities. Rather than using manual thrusts, chiropractors use these instruments to apply consistent, low-force adjustments that help improve joint motion and address areas of restriction or dysfunction.

First, the chiropractor evaluates spinal movement, posture, and joint function to identify restricted areas. Then, the instrument delivers a quick mechanical impulse directly to the targeted joint. Because the force remains controlled and localized, instrument adjusting works especially well for patients who prefer a gentler approach to chiropractic care.

Additionally, instrument adjustments benefit a wide range of ages and conditions. Children, older adults, and individuals with rigid bodies, arthritis, injuries, osteoporosis concerns, or heightened sensitivity often tolerate instrument adjusting very well. At the same time, active adults and athletes benefit from the precision and consistency these tools provide.

Furthermore, chiropractors commonly use instrument adjusting to address conditions such as:

  • Neck pain and back pain

  • Joint stiffness and reduced mobility

  • Arthritis-related discomfort

  • Postural strain and repetitive stress injuries

  • Sports injuries

  • Motor vehicle collision–related injuries

  • Extremity issues involving shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, knees, or ankles

After injuries such as car accidents or falls, muscles may tighten and joints may lose proper motion. In these cases, instrument adjusting allows chiropractors to restore movement without placing excessive force on injured tissues. As a result, patients often experience improved comfort and mobility during recovery.

Moreover, instrument adjusting works hand in hand with overall chiropractic care. While the instrument helps restore joint motion, additional therapies, stretches, and exercises help reinforce stability and long-term function. Together, these approaches support safe, effective recovery and ongoing wellness.

Ultimately, instrument adjusting provides a gentle yet effective chiropractic option for patients of all ages. Through precision, consistency, and controlled force, this technique helps improve movement, reduce discomfort, and support long-term spinal and joint health.
